Preparation for the BIG NM Bike Trip

Well as you can read from the header, I am going on bike trip in Taos, New Mexico with work. It is a 3 day event with the first day being a 84 miler and 2nd being a century. The 3rd day is most likely a century as well.

April 21, I went on my first long ride of the season, 80 miles. I felt great the first 55 miles until I noticed the dreaded bonk. I ate 2 bowls of cereal in the morning and ate maybe 2 packs of 2 granola bars. Hidration was water only. I hope to say that might have contributed to the bonk. I rode with members of the Team V group who are going with us on the trip. They tried to push me forward to keep me in line of the draft. I ended up being draft pulled by Jon Miner, great guy and co-worker for the remainder of the ride. I didn't feel dizzy or anything, just out of power. My system has not adjusted to the longer rides yet. Hopefully I can make all of the rides next week May 4-6.

I bought some Cytomax in grape and some cool gel stuff in a cool bottle that looks like I will taking a swig of whiskey while riding. I will try this and see.

Wishin the best for a great trip and kick starting my biking season.

tried the singlespeed thing on a geared bike

At the game area, I tried setting the my geared Seven Sola for one gear ratio. 32 front and 17 rear. I actually did the trail in about the same time or faster. I am converting my IF steel deluxe into a single speeder. I had the frame powdercoated a while back and I am in the process of finishing off the addition of the most important part of the bike, the application of the IF stickers:). The frame looks good! I just have to place the last decal and the frame goes to Alger for Headset pressing and the assembly of the Single speed is a go. Can not wait! Oh! I enjoyed my first attempt at Single Speeding. Here is a picture of a IF steel deluxe in single speed format.

Trying out Single Speeding

Well I amtrying out singlespeeding. My friend, Joe, lent me some SS parts and I am converting the IF(Independent Fabrication) into a Single Speed. From what I have heard it is hard to pedal in one gear, but I will try it out for the sake of working harder or even liking it. Well we see and I hope that I won't kill myself.
