Preparation for the BIG NM Bike Trip
Well as you can read from the header, I am going on bike trip in Taos, New Mexico with work. It is a 3 day event with the first day being a 84 miler and 2nd being a century. The 3rd day is most likely a century as well.
April 21, I went on my first long ride of the season, 80 miles. I felt great the first 55 miles until I noticed the dreaded bonk. I ate 2 bowls of cereal in the morning and ate maybe 2 packs of 2 granola bars. Hidration was water only. I hope to say that might have contributed to the bonk. I rode with members of the Team V group who are going with us on the trip. They tried to push me forward to keep me in line of the draft. I ended up being draft pulled by Jon Miner, great guy and co-worker for the remainder of the ride. I didn't feel dizzy or anything, just out of power. My system has not adjusted to the longer rides yet. Hopefully I can make all of the rides next week May 4-6.
I bought some Cytomax in grape and some cool gel stuff in a cool bottle that looks like I will taking a swig of whiskey while riding. I will try this and see.
Wishin the best for a great trip and kick starting my biking season.
